No code, just highlight it with your mouse. Fairly standard spoiler concealment system.

In the post reply box it looks like a brown block... you click on it and type your spoiler stuff in the middle. To read the spoiler just click on the brown area and hold your mouse key.

Or type, then highlight, then hit the "Spoiler" button (brown square, like Miranda said). Your highlighted text gets marked up with spoiler tags. Or by hand (for those of us who like to do without all the Javascript), if you type [sp oiler]Shh! Secret Squirrel : -x[/sp oiler], it comes out as Shh! Secret Squirrel :-x

Oh ok so different options including one I've seen used on another forum I frequent. I wasn't sure if it worked here or not and was wondering while reading replies how to do that highlight thing on the itouch so now I know I can do it with a button involved

I think that on an iTouch, you would have to highlight text such as this in order to reveal it. Let us know how well that works.

I'm using an iPhone and can confirm, selecting or highlighting doesn't reveal the text. When I'm on my comp during the weekday, I'll see if it wraps a spoiler in a collapsible show/hide box. Probably a platform difference.
TerraFirma.com, a Farscape and scifi fan forum, uses SMF forums too, and the spoiler tags they use should be similar. If not, no doubt they'd say where they got the add-on mod or code. Plenty Browncoats over there besides.

I'm using an iPhone and can confirm, selecting or highlighting doesn't reveal the text. When I'm on my comp during the weekday, I'll see if it wraps a spoiler in a collapsible show/hide box. Probably a platform difference. We don't use any kind of collapsable box. Our spoiler tags are really, really simple - basically just brown text on a brown background. When you highlight it it becomes visible by virtue of being displayed in different colors. (Firefox gets something different, coz we were able to test that). For all non-Firefox browsers it really should be that simple - which is why I'm completely baffled that it doesn't work. When I use User Agent Switcher (to allow Firefox to pretend to be an iPhone) I see exactly that - brown text on a brown background (hence invisible), which displays in different (hence visible) colors when highlighted. Does a real iPhone not allow you to highlight text or something? TerraFirma.com, a Farscape and scifi fan forum, uses SMF forums too, and the spoiler tags they use should be similar. If not, no doubt they'd say where they got the add-on mod or code. Plenty Browncoats over there besides. Give me a URL (of a page containing a spoiler tag that works on an iPhone) and I'll take a look. Thanks.

When I tried highlighting text here via iPhone, it gave a light gray background to regular text, but didn't appear to change the background or foreground colors of the spoiler text. Hmm... I haven't tried checking spoiler tags at TF on my iPhone. Hang on, I'll find a thread (or make one). Edited to Add: OK, try this thread with spoiler tags (Hey, there are a couple of Firefly references!) for the show, Flash Forward. http://terrafirmascapers.com/index.php/topic,31988.0.htmlTerra Firma > The Commerce Planet > The View Portal > Flash Forward One's a pic; another's text. Now looking on my iPhone...and back here (desktop WinXP box). Yay! The spoiler tags and show/hide they use there are clickable and show/hide just fine on my iPhone and on Windows. The collapsibility is probably via JavaScript. Surely one of the admins/mods at TerraFirma would answer questions from the admins/mods here, regarding how they got their spoiler tags and any issues with them. Several of the Signal and ScapeCast folks are well known members at TerraFirma. Typing or clicking to insert a spoiler tag there works like it does here, but the scripting and visual appearance and functionality are, of course, quite different. OMG, it's a spoiler! Were there terrifying space monkeys?

Now that I own an iPad, I can revisit this topic and get the spoiler tags working for everyone at last! So - in response to my request for an example which works for everyone, BlueCatShip said Alas, I have to report that the page linked above does not work for everyone. Specifically, if Javascript is disabled, the spoiler buttons don't work. We require a solution that works for everyone, whether or not they have an i*, and whether or not they choose to prohibit Javascript. Does anyone know of any example forums whose spoiler tags will work for everyone? If not, we may have to invent our own technique. For the record, I'd prefer a system which allows us to hide a single word, mid-sentence. Those button techniques don't really do that.

The way that spoiler tags operate has now changed, and it now works on iPad.
Here's how it is: If Javasript is enabled, click to view, click again to hide; if Javascript is disabled, click-and-hold to view, release to hide.
The second method doesn't work on iPad, but the first method does. I think that's OK, because there is little incentive to turn Javascript off on an iPad (or iPhone, etc).
